Welcome to the Bitterroot Public Library!
Since 1903, the Bitterroot Public Library has been dedicated to providing materials, services, programs, and technology to meet the needs and interests of our community.
Our current library was built in 1916 and was one of the 17 Carnegie libraries built in Montana. The building was expanded in 1988 to serve the growing community of Hamilton and its surroundings.
BPL offers password free wireless internet and 5 public access computers. We provide WiFi and regular printing and the ability to scan, copy, and fax documents. A meeting room is available to reserve for groups and individuals.
We offer many programs to our community, including children’s story times, after school kids’ programs, book clubs, movie nights, take home kits, craft classes, and musical performances. All events at the library are free.
Our materials collection includes books for all ages and interests, as well as DVDs, audiobooks, newspapers and magazines, homeschooling kits, mobile hotspots, laptops and board games and balls. Importantly, we partner with almost 40 other Montana libraries to share their collections with us for free.
Our digital collections vary from Hoopla, an audiobook, ebook, and video streaming platform and Kanopy, a movie streaming platform, to Montana Library2Go, an audio and ebook platform and Mango Languages, a multi-faceted language learning site. All of these digital programs are free and available to BPL card holders.
Getting a library card is easy and free! Drop by the library during our open hours and fill out an application. It takes only a few minutes.
We hope you’ll stop by the library the next time you’re in Hamilton!
